Huntington Teenagers Honored for Essays
It’s a serious issue and a group of Huntington High School students were up to the task of writing essays for the Suffolk County Coalition against Domestic Violence’s 8th annual “Express This!” contest. Six teenagers were honored during a recent awards ceremony.
The theme for this year’s contest was “Celebrity Dating and Domestic Violence Cases: How Do They Affect Our Teens?” Huntington freshman Jonathan Wood received honorable mention recognition along with a package of complimentary prizes, including movie tickets.
Earning certificates of merit for their poems and essays were Melissa Cohen, Katie Petrozzo, Kyle McCartney, Michelle Waaland and Elizabeth McGovern. The students were encouraged to enter the contest by their Huntington High School English teacher, Kelly Quintero. The work was published in a contest journal.
The teenagers received their awards at a ceremony held earlier this month at the Sachem Public Library.
