Top Blue Devil Athletes Receive Suffolk Gold Keys

Eight Blue Devil athletes were presented with Section XI Gold Key awards at last week’s 42nd Senior Athletic Awards Banquet in Huntington High School’s Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.
The Gold Key is the highest honor a Suffolk athlete can receive for sports participation, according to Huntington Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy. This year’s Blue Devil recipients include Ricardo Caballero, Stevenson Gabriel, Yvette Hallman, Luis Lopez, Meredith McCourt, Christopher Sandoval, Dan Smith and Lauren Visbal.
“The Gold Key is a county award emphasizing participation in interscholastic athletics while recognizing proficiency in performance,” Mrs. McCarthy said. The award is presented in every Suffolk high school to students who have earned a minimum of eight athletic letters on varsity or junior varsity teams between their sophomore and senior years
Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello formally presented the awards to recipients. “This is an amazing honor for these young men and women,” Mr. Finello said.
