Retirement Party to Fete Mary Bly

Mary Bly, a longtime Huntington School District teacher, will be feted at a retirement party on Sunday, June 13 from 1-4 p.m. at Matteo’s Restaurant on W, Jericho Turnpike in Huntington. The veteran educator plans to hang up her chalk stick at the end of June.
The $60 luncheon fee will cover the cost of refreshments, appetizers, family-style dining, dessert, gratuities and a gift. Woodhull Intermediate School teacher Cindy Palmirotto is coordinating the affair. An RSVP by June 5 is requested.
Mrs. Bly holds a BA degree in psychology from SUNY College at Oswego and a Master’s in special education from C.W. Post College. Since arriving in Huntington 1984, she has taught at J. Taylor Finley Junior High School and Jefferson, Southdown and Woodhull schools. Her assignments have included self-contained, resource, inclusion and, most recently, corrective reading classes. She’s also the district’s early reading intervention coach and trainer. She earlier taught special education in the Patchogue-Medford district for three years.
“Mary is a real professional and has been one of our most dedicated teachers,” Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said. “We will miss her and wish her a long and happy retirement.”
