40th Reunion Coming for Huntington’s Class of 1970
Huntington High School’s Class of 1970 is finalizing plans for its 40th reunion October 1-2 in and around Huntington. More than five dozen class members have already indicated they plan to attend.
The 1970 alums are expected to gather at Prime on Friday, October 1 at 5 p.m. for cocktails and conversation. Class members are hoping to tour through Huntington High School and the School Heritage Museum on Saturday, October 2 before erecting a tent at the afternoon football game at Blue Devil Stadium. A dinner-dance is slated for Saturday night from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Huntington Hilton in Melville.
The Class of 1970 was led by valedictorian James Francis and salutatorian Marilyn Kaufman. Clifford Murray served as acting principal of the school at the time of the graduation, which was held June 21 at 3 p.m. It marked the school’s 109th annual commencement. Superintendent William F. Keough, who would later be held hostage in Iran by radical students who stormed the U.S. Embassy there, presented the class. Trustees Anita Messinger and Robert Millspaugh presented seniors with their diplomas.
The reunion organizing committee consists of Class of 1970 members Kevin Chase, Judy Auletta-Dunn and Gary Nagle. Those attending the dinner-dance at the Huntington Hilton will also receive an alumni directory.
