Huntington’s Class of 1960 Plans 50th Reunion

Huntington High School’s Class of 1960 has organized a 50th reunion for October 22-24. A committee of class members has met several times this summer and recently announced details of what promises to be a very special time for the second class to graduate from the “new” high school building.

The reunion will kick-off Friday, October 22 with an “ice-breaker” reception at the Huntington Yacht Club from 6:30 – 10 p.m. A selection of hot and cold dishes served at stations will be available throughout the evening. Tickets are on sale for $35.

On Saturday, October 23, the 1960 alums will participate in Huntington’s homecoming day parade in the morning, tour through the high school and visit the district’s School Heritage Museum and attend the afternoon Blue Devil football game. Halftime festivities will include crowning the homecoming king and queen.

A dinner dance will be held Saturday night at the Huntington Crescent Club. A DJ will be on hand spinning tunes from the 50’s and 60’s. A lavish buffet dinner is planned. Tickets are on sale for the dinner dance for $150.

If there is enough interest, the weekend will close with brunch on Sunday, October 24 at the Huntington Bay Club from 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Organizers are asking classmates to register for the various reunion events by September 1. Checks payable to 1960 alum Richard Brush should be sent to Richard and Sally Brush, 22 Jefferson Landing Circle, Port Jefferson, NY 11777. The amount of the check should reflect the number of events and number of persons attending each one.

Huntington’s Class of 1960 graduated on Tuesday, June 28 at 8:15 p.m. in the school auditorium. It was the school’s 99th annual commencement. The class was led by valedictorian Charlotte Tay Moss and salutatorian Kristy Asbury. Robert A. Cushman was the principal. Donald Lombardi was the honor speaker. Superintendent J. Taylor Finley presented members of the class and School Board President Alexander Wilson presented seniors with their diplomas.
