Blue Devil Tennis
has Great Potential

The season might have ended with the Blue Devil boys’ varsity tennis team resting in fifth place, but head coach Jamie Fishlow thinks his Huntington High School squad is on the cusp of being something special.
Captained by University of Delaware-bound seniors Max Smoller and Justin Greenidge, the Blue Devils finished with a 3-7 mark in league play, 4-10 overall. The team was comprised of “nice guys who played to their potential,” Fishlow said.
Huntington did suffer through some inconsistent play due to a lack of varsity experience. “Their skills are good,” Fishlow said. “They need to focus on competition.”
The Blue Devils were led by Smoller, who played at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, freshman Sam Johnson, who saw time at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, junior Cole Peters, who No. 3 and No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles) and junior singles player David Stillman.
Fishlow said that Smoller was “reliable and consistent” and that Peters displayed a “steady, consistent game.” The coach added that Johnson has “huge potential” and that Stillman has a “big game” and will look to improve his competitive edge. Junior Robert Hughes also emerged as a top contributor.
Fishlow said the season highlights included a successful 2nd annual Blue Devil Tennis Tournament and the time the high school program spent sharing the courts and practicing with its middle school counterpart.
The core of next year’s Huntington team is expected to consist of Peters, Stillman, Johnson, Hughes and 2010/11 sophomore Max Fehrs, a member of a renowned local tennis family. “All have great potential,” Fishlow said. “If they put the time in during the off-season there will be great improvement.”
