Jack Abrams School’s Hats for Haiti Raises $1K

Seeing a clear need, the Jack Abrams Intermediate School community quickly raised more than $1,000 last week for earthquake victims in Haiti.
“Our students and staff really came together to show support for the victims of the tragic earthquake in Haiti,” teacher Cristina Anderson said. “The Hats for Haiti campaign was a great success. Kids, staff and faculty were buzzing about it all week! Everyone enjoyed sporting their unique hats; sombreros, baseball caps, wool caps, visors, cheese-head hats and fedoras.”
The money raised is being donated to the American Red Cross for their efforts in Haiti. The week produced lots of fun and laughs for everyone. “The best part, however, is that everyone felt good inside to be helping the people of Haiti,” Mrs. Anderson said. “Some of our sixth grade students are of Haitian descent and still have family there. They were, as you can probably imagine, enthusiastic about the fundraiser and appreciated the school’s effort to support the people of their native country.”
Jack Abrams School teachers pitched in and participated, including Mrs. Anderson’s co-teacher Carol-Ann Kinane and dean of students Scott Armyn, “who helped tremendously in organizing and running the fundraiser,” Mrs. Anderson said. Principal Mary Stokkers was also enthusiastic about the initiative and teacher aide Mary Scott played a key role in its success, too.
