Food Service Audit Sterling

Food service operations at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School underwent a thorough two-day state audit earlier this month and came through the process with flying colors.

“[The] Huntington Union Free School District is doing an excellent job in administering the child nutrition program,” wrote Sandra Ragule, a State Education Department official, in a letter to Superintendent John J. Finello.

The Coordinated Review Effort seeks to determine whether districts are in compliane with federal and state regulations governing the National School Lunch Program. The review “included both critical and general areas of program compliance,” according to a letter sent to the district.

“Applications for free and reduced price eligibility were accurately reviewed and very well organized,” Ms. Ragule wrote. “Point of service accountability was accurate and well documented records led to a correctly submitted claim. The managers, cooks, servers and cashiers are hardworking and friendly individuals who have positive relationships with the students.”
