Paperless Communication Initiative Advances
Encouraged by Huntington School Board members, district administrators are moving forward with a paperless communication initiative that will save money, improve efficiency and effectiveness and be environmentally friendly.
Letters will soon be on their way to parents offering them an opportunity to receive certain types of district communications via e-mail. The items are currently mailed or carried home by students in hard copy form.
The district is also making available a “parent portal” that will allow parents of secondary grade level students to view their child’s daily attendance, progress reports and report cards online.
Parents are being asked to review a demographic validation form containing information currently contained in the district’s computerized database about their child and forward any needed corrections to the information.
A letter to parents from each school’s principal will provide information about how to go about accessing the parent portal of the student management system. Once the e-mail addresses of interested parents have been collected, participants will be notified electronically that the program is ready for begin.
The program will be convenient for parents and offer them an opportunity to receive more timely communications. It will also save taxpayer dollars by reducing the need for postage, paper, envelopes and the cost of the personnel who physically address the envelopes and put the paper communications into them.
Participants in the program will also be able to receive messages from the Connect Ed system via e-mail, in addition to calls to cell phones and telephones.
