Math Honor Society Inducts New Members
While math can be a very demanding subject for many students, the 23 new members of the local chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society at Huntington High School, have shown a degree of mastery that was celebrated during a ceremony in the school auditorium.
The honorees included Sami Aiman, Cristina Badalamenti, Michelle Byrne, Adam Cerini, Alyson Coleman, Juliana Coraar, Kaja Coraor, Amelia Eisen, Carolyn Fante, Micah Feldman, Alexa Giammarino, Nana Jiang, Alexandra Kiley, Anthony Kouttron, Andrew Ku, Olivia Limbach, Sara Lustberg, Patrick O’Brien, Michael O’Connor, Mia Rienzo, Meghan Rowland, Nicholas Shivers and David Stillman. Veteran teacher Doris C. Quintilian serves as the society’s faculty advisor.
This year’s festivities marked the 13th induction ceremony in the society’s history. It included several speakers who explained the purpose of the Math Honor Society and the responsibilities associated with membership. Parents and family members beamed throughout the event and math teachers dotted the audience.
The honorees lit candles and as each was inducted, the auditorium lights gradually dimmed until the room was illuminated only by candlelight. “It was a nice dramatic effect,” Mrs. Quintilian said. A small reception followed in the auditorium lobby.
The new inductees are an impressive group. “They are very high achieving students who have worked hard,” Principal Dr. Carmela Leonardi said. “We’re proud of them.”
Joseph D’Esposito (first violin), Jeffrey Sun (second violin), Taylor Fritts (viola) and Oliver Lockwood (cello) provided entertainment throughout the evening and lent an air of elegance to the proceeding
The new inductees join continuing members Lauren Campbell, Johanna Clifford, Everett Coraor, Caitlin Etri, Justin Greenidge, Alexandra Kimchy, Evan McCann (secretary), Thomas Monks (vice-president), Daniel Rabinowitz (president), Luke Reigot, Jeremy Rhodes (treasurer), Nicholas Schoen, Rebecca Silverman, Max Smoller, Colleen Teubner, Alanna Tieman and Ariel Wertheim.
