One-Goal Losses Cost Blue Devil JV Soccer
A series of one-goal losses resulted in the Huntington JV boys’ soccer team compiling a 3-11-2 record under head coach Vincent Tannazzo. The 27-member Blue Devil squad was captained by sophomores Philip Hofsiss, Christopher Napolitano and James Neary and juniors Julio Garciaguirre and Jeffrey Moreira.
Speedy freshman forward Pat Reilly led Huntington with six goals. Hofsiss scored five times. Freshman midfielder Grixon Moreira notched a team-high five assists. Sophomore goalie Normen Gomez-Vasquez recorded 80 saves.
“This team has strong skill-leveled young players,” Tannazzo said. “They showed improvements throughout the year and played hard every game, losing the majority of games by one goal.”
The highlight of the season came in a rematch with Kings Park. The Blue Devils lost the first time around, 6-1 but picked up their play in the second game and battled to a two-goal tie.
“We have a good group of skilled players returning,” Tannazzo said. “Combined with the up-and-coming freshmen, it’s going to make us a hard team to beat next year.”
