Blue Devil Girls’ Swimmers are State Scholars

The Huntington High School girls’ swimming and diving team was honored by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association with a Scholar Athlete Team Award for the squad’s outstanding academic performance after the group compiled a composite 91.5 grade point average.

Blue Devil swimmers Alana Alongi, Jessica Baik, Claire Beach, Page Bond, Molly Brambil, Kristina Casale, Phoebe Curran, Shannon Doherty, Caitlin Dyckes, Rachel Feltman, Erica Flor, Diana Harvey, Antonia Keddell, Samantha Lai, Meghan Latini, Emily Maggio, Andrea Meyer, Taylor Palmer, Marisa Pashkin, Sara Totura and Scout Zeigler were cited for their high powered performance in the classroom.

The state scholar athlete program requires a set number of participants from each team to have their GPAs averaged. Higher GPAs can be used offset lower ones. The team’s GPA must be at least 90 to win the award. Coaches nominate their teams and guidance offices must certify the grades and transcripts must be submitted to the state office for review.

“It’s wonderful to see so many members of our swimming and diving team earning such a prestigious award,” said Georgia D. McCarthy, district director of athletics. “They have successfully balanced school and sports and we are all proud of their achievements.”
