Spotlight on Huntington Photographer Tyler Moore

Tyler Moore is a young man of many talents. A scholar, musician, tennis player and artist, he’s one of the top student-photographers at Huntington High School and is increasingly producing eye-catching work.

Mr. Moore is rarely without his camera nearby. He has a photographer’s eye and he continues to work hard at perfecting his skills and techniques. Young photographers need to shoot tens of thousands of photos and Mr. Moore has displayed a willingness to do just that, investing mammoth amounts of time in the field.

Working closely with photography teacher Pamela Piffard, Mr. Moore has found a second home in the photography program’s ground floor complex. His photos have found an enthusiastic audience.

“Tyler has a lot of natural talent. He has a great eye for detail and his concepts are well thought out. I can't wait to see what else he does!”

Questions and Answers with Tyler Moore

Q: How old are you and what grade are you in?

Tyler: I’m a junior and I am 16 years old.

Q: How did you first get interested in photography?

Tyler: Well since my mom is a photography teacher, she used to bring me with her classes on field trips when I was little. The field trips were always to the city, and we either spent the day shooting or visiting photo exhibits. Ever since then my interest in photography grew.

Q: Where do you get your ideas?

Tyler: Most of my ideas come from words that are stuck in my head. I try to incorporate them into my pictures, to set a general tone and feeling. I also find a lot of my inspiration from music and movies, as well as random thoughts that stem off of conversations with my friends.

Q: Is there any specific type of photography you like best?

Tyler: I’ve always liked skateboard and BMX photography because the way action sports pictures are shot and edited have a very unique style. I try to bring my camera with me when I ride my bike, in case I see potential for a good shot. I’m also really interested in music photography. I like to take my camera to shows, and get pictures of the bands on stage, as well the crowd watching.

Q: How has the Huntington photography program helped you with your love of photography?

Tyler: The photography program in Huntington is great. Last year, Intro to Photo taught me all the basics of film photography and the fundamentals of dark room work. This year, Advanced Photo is teaching me about digital photography, as well as the editing process, and using different techniques to improve the quality of my pictures. I owe a lot to Ms. Piffard, because she has helped me become a better photographer and has inspired me to possibly pursue a career in photography.

Q: Do you plan to continue with photography or go to school for it?

Tyler: Although I love taking pictures, I’ve always wanted to be a musician, and pursue a career in music after college. However, I definitely plan on continuing with my photography, as it will always be a passion of mine.
