The Tri-M Music Honor Society at J. Taylor Finley Middle School welcomed 26 new members during a recent induction ceremony in the school auditorium. The evening featured warm and congratulatory words and pleasing musical selections.

One-by-one, Tri-M officers spoke about the meaning and mission of the society. The happy parents in attendance snapped plenty of photos, politely applauded and some even videotaped the event.
The new members were presented with Tri-M pins and told to wear them “with pride and dignity as you continue to demonstrate the value of music in your life and share your gift with your school and community.”
The inductees were chosen on the basis of their musicianship, academic performance and demonstrated leadership. They were told to take “great pride in this achievement, which unites you with thousands of other student members throughout the world.”
Tri-M’s continuing members include Jonathan Bethiel, Zach Burden, Jonathan Engle, Marc Feldman, Jesse Feldman-Stein, Nina Flores, Katherine Gerdes, Alexa Gorczycki, Chelsea Holmes, Kathryn Ingle, Christian Jamison, Alexandria Mandriotta, Brian McConnell, Ashley Melgar, Kevin Montefusco, Ben Nikodem, Monica Owen, Olivia Palmer, Stephanie Shea, Matthew Sherman, Nick Sherman, Lyndsey Williams, Margot Yanuck and Samuel Yanuck.
Following the formal ceremonies, a reception for parents and students was held in the school lobby. With the Huntington community placing so much value on the arts, induction into the music honor society is an impressive and cherished accomplishment.
The evening’s program included performances by Tri-M members in band, orchestra and chorus. “The students all performed so professionally, it was hard to believe they were only in middle school,” said Joan R. Fretz, district director of fine and performing arts.
Gabby Mandriota is serving as the society’s president this year. The slate of officers also includes Ms. Gorczycki (vice-president), Ms. Shea (secretary), Mr. Feldman-Stein (treasurer) and Ms. Gerdes (historian). Finley music teachers Debbie Kim, Josie Rosado, Frank Battista and Chris Scarnato serve as Tri-M faculty advisors.
