Anthony Priolo continues to excel at Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a spot on the Dean’s List for the third straight semester. Mr. Priolo, a 2008 graduate of Huntington High School, is a math major. During the fall semester he earned a 3.76 grade point average on the strength of an A+, two A’s and a B. The four courses were worth four credits each. He’s registered for 19 credits this spring, which is shaping up to be a “very tough” semester, he said. He’s also a teacher’s assistant for a discrete mathematics course.
Mr. Priolo is currently in the process of applying for a range of summer internships. “They are very competitive, so I’ll need some luck,” he said.

Maria Marascia, who was a four year varsity letter winner in volleyball, basketball and spring track and field, is successfully adapting to life at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
A member of Huntington High School’s Class of 2009, she earned a 3.49 grade point average in her first semester on the UMASS campus. She is focusing on track as a college athlete and it’s been both a joy and a challenge.
“Track is really hard here,” Ms. Marascia said. “Since I never did indoor track before, it was very different. My main event for indoor was the 400m run and the 4 x 4 relay.”
The UMASS track team trains for three hours on Monday and for 2 ½ hours Tuesday through Friday. “The different thing about track here is we have to go to the weight room two times a week and since I never lifted before it was very embarrassing because I could not lift the bench bar at first,” the former Blue Devil star said. “But, now I can. The team is so nice and so helpful. The girls and guys team are like my brothers and sisters. It’s good because were like a family.”
Ms. Marascia, who will turn 19 in May, set a Huntington school record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 66.8 seconds.

John Lee is nearing the climax of his four years at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. A 2006 graduate of Huntington High School, Mr. Lee will graduate with a B.S. degree in ocean engineering with a concentration in environmental/civil engineering and a minor in Japanese along with a grade point average in the neighborhood of 3.4.
The Huntington grad said he “can’t wait to get out into the fleet and get started. I found out in November that I was selected to go Marine Corps upon graduation. My first school will be The Basics School (TBS) in Quantico, Virginia, which will last six months.”
Mr. Lee said that all officers attend TBS and upon completion compete for job assignments. He has an aviation “contract” which effectively assures him a spot in flight school after his time in Quantico. “I will go to Pensacola, Florida for the first phase of flight school,” Mr. Lee said. “All told, the entire aviation pipeline takes about 2 ½ to three years to complete. Eventually, I hope to fly the UH-1N.” The craft is a military helicopter known alternately by service members as the Huey or Twin Huey.
