Huntington School Board Notes

 

At their meeting this past Monday night, Huntington School Board members accepted the resignation of J. Taylor Finley Middle School math teacher Corinne D’Andrea, effective at the close of business on June 30. Trustees also granted a child care related leaves of absence to Jack Abrams Intermediate School music teacher Nicole Lynch for the 2010/11 school year and Huntington High School ESL teacher Nadine Araoz for the period from September 1 to January 31, 2011.

 

Julie Wright was approved to work as a long-term substitute art teacher at Huntington High School from February 1 through March 12 and Melissa Munno was hired as long-term special education substitute teacher at Finley for the period from February 22 through June 30.

 

Anthony Troffa (special education) and Helen Guarino (English) were appointed to alternative high school faculty. They will be paid $52.21 per hour.

 

Trustees approved a change in assignment for Allison Collins, who will now be a full-time leave replacement English teacher at Huntington High School through the end of the school year. Junette Gunter’s assignment was changed from three-hour monitor to three-hour aide at Flower Hill Primary School.

 

Nurses Patricia Forde, Judith Maier, Rita Barry and Marlene McKenna were appointed to conduct six days of screening during the district’s kindergarten registration during March and April.

 

The end of the probationary period of reading teacher Christina Droskoski was changed from September 1, 2010 to October 4, 2010 due to a leave of absence.

 

Trustees also took the following actions:

 

• Approved a revised contract with the Glen Cove City School District for the education of Huntington School District school age residents who are receiving special education services there.

 

• Approved a contract with the Bethpage School District for the education of a Huntington School District school age resident who is being educated there.

 

• Approved an addendum to a consultant services contract with Joann Kavanagh, for professional development workshops on Smart Board technology. She will be paid $100 per hour.

 

• Approved a consultant services contract with Bilinguals, Inc., located at 33 Walt Whitman Road, Suite 300B, Huntington Station, for special education student evaluations. Rates vary depending on the type of evaluation and the age of the student.

 

• Approved a consultant services contract with South Oaks Comprehensive Behavioral Health Continuum in Amityville for various services.

 

• Approved participation in a free six-month pilot of the Town of Huntington’s community-wide emergency preparedness network.

 

• Extended the bus contracts with Huntington Coach Corp. and R.K. Davis Bus Company for one year at a rate based upon the May 2010 Consumer Price Index.

 

• Accepted the resignation of Jefferson Primary School aide Olga Yearby.
