SEPTA Announces Grant Awards
The Huntington School Board has accepted a donation of more than $7,100 from the Special Education PTA to be used in funding 15 grants in seven different school buildings this year.
SEPTA annually awards grants based upon faculty generated proposals. The group raises the monies through various fundraising events. “SEPTA has been incredibly generous through the years and this latest round of grants will enhance our educational program,” Superintendent John J. Finello said.
This year’s grant recipients include:
• Joan Castles - Huntington High School
Club Serendipity Wii game system and select games CD and karaoke machine
• Barbara Noble – Huntington High School
Short term trips for rewarded an 8:1:1 class
• Marybeth Stahl – J. Taylor Finley Middle School
Special education life skills software for SMART Board
• Nina DeGioia/Kate Carey – J. Taylor Finley Middle School
Building social skills through the Friendship club (pizza party and reward items)
• Lori Haggerty – J. Taylor Finley Middle School
Independent life skills – Make a Snack (food supplies)
• Mary DiBenedetto – Jack Abrams School
Friendship club (reward items)
• Lynn Hefele – Jack Abrams School
Stationary bicycle for adaptive physical education
• Mary Stokkers – Jack Abrams School
Calming and self-managing items
• Colleen Lanigan-Simko/Leonard Mendola – Woodhull School
PT, OT and social skills through Wii system
• Kaaren Palumbo – Flower Hill School
Educational software for autistic students (DT trainer with “creative antics”
• Cynthia Fletcher – Flower Hill School
Activation and maintaining focus (vibrating watch and alarm pager)
• Renee Garcia – Jefferson School
Sensory integration gym/equipment
• Barbara Bell – Jefferson School
Sing-along songs that work (CD set)
• Shelly Stockner/Sarah Macaluso – Southdown School
Speech and language materials
• Linda Malloy-Buonanno – Southdown School
Handwriting emergency kits (OT support materials)
School trustees accepted SEPTA’s donation of $7,110.14 “with gratitude.”
