Visbal Emerges for Blue Devils

As Lauren Visbal enters the final months of her time at Huntington High School, the steady and dependable role she has played on three different Blue Devil athletic teams has become more evident.
Huntington basketball coach Brad Reminick is counting on the talented senior to help the Blue Devils secure a play-off berth this month. “Lauren is an extremely gifted athlete,” he said. “She sometimes doesn’t understand just how gifted she is. She can run like the wind and jump out of the gym. She has tapped into that potential this year and helped us win some games.”
In the coming days, Visbal will need to be on top of her game. “She will have to play at an extremely high level down the stretch if we are to make the play-offs,” Reminick said.
Visbal was one of the Blue Devils’ top volleyball players last fall and last spring she set school records on the girls’ track and field team. She’s also an exceptional student and well-liked by teammates and teachers.
“She is such a nice person and only wants the best for the team,” Reminick said. “Lauren is a great teammate and a true leader of this year’s team. She is very encouraging with the younger players and I think she has taken the torch from the previous group, helping out the younger kids.”
Reminck has come to appreciate Visbal for what she can do on and off the court. “She is a great leader and it’s been a pleasure having her as a player these past four years,” he said. The coach will miss her as well as senior Meredith McCourt when next season rolls around. “Lauren and Meredith just make it easy to come to work each day,” he said.
