Mike Kaplan picked up his first victory as head coach of Huntington High School's girls' basketball team when the Blue Devils defeated Bay Shore, 45-40 in a non-league game.

Huntington trailed 8-6 after one quarter but then went on a 10-5 run to move ahead by halftime, 16-13. A huge third quarter saw the Blue Devils expand their advantage to 34-24.

Huntington's Jackie Waldron led all scorers with 19 points. Raynisha Witherspoon added 11 points. Waldron and Witherspoon each pulled down 10 rebounds. Emma Hayes-Hurley (seven points), Heather Forster (four points), Katie Nugent (three points and Courtney O'Bryan (one point) also scored in the game.

Wrestlers Win Five

The Huntington High School wrestling team won five dual meets in a tournament at Port Jervis High School last weekend. The Blue Devils topped Highland (81-6), Rondout Valley (66-13), Washingtonville (56-20), Port Jervis (55-19) and Middletown (56-19).

The 5-0 record in the competition gave Huntington the tournament championship.

Blue Devils Lose Tight One

The Huntington boys' basketball team lost to Hauppauge, 58-54. The Blue Devils trailed 29-26 at halftime and 47-46 after three quarters.

Tyre Brown led Huntington with 17 points. John Patron and P.J. White added 13 points each, respectively. Treyvon Brown (nine points) and Jack Cutrone (two points) also contributed to the effort.

Early Lead Evaporates

The Blue Devil girls' basketball team jumped out to an early lead against Hauppauge in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium but it soon evaporated as the Eagles went on to top Huntington, 48-27.

The Blue Devils enjoyed an early advantage before being thrown on the defensive for the remainder of the game. Hauppauge led 16-11 after eight minutes and 28-15 at halftime.

Jackie Waldron led Huntington's offense with nine points. Heather Forster added eight points. Emma Hayes-Hurley (four points), Sarah Ehrman (two points), Courtney O'Bryan (two points) and Raynisha Witherspoon (two points) also scored.

Sweet Victory for Blue Devils

Jackie Waldron was "on" as the senior scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead a spirited Huntington girls' basketball team past Miller Place, 47-40. The Blue Devils fell behind early, 10-4, before staging a rally to go ahead by halftime, 18-16.

Heather Forster pumped in 14 points and added 11 rebounds and five blocks for Huntington. Raynisha Witherspoon had six points and 12 rebounds. Emma Hayes-Hurley and Courtney O'Bryan had five points each, respectively. Colleen Wright scored four points.
