Finley-7 Football Finishes Strong
at 4-2
Three consecutive late season victories gave the J. Taylor Finley Middle School seventh grade football team something to cheer about as the Falcons closed out the year with a 4-2 mark under coaches Rick Eriksen and Phil Lowe.
The 46-member team was captained by John Brendel, Ethan Dwyer, James Pugliese and Chris Rasco. Finley bested East Northport (35-0), West Hollow (28-19), Lindenhurst (20-0) and Bay Shore (20-0). The Falcons lost to Hauppauge (6-0) and Commack (35-7).
The squad featured many skilled players. Rasco quarterbacked the "A" team and Puglisese called signals for the "B" team. Dwyer gobbled up yardage as one of the team's speedy running backs. Brendel was the "A" team's center.
From "A" team safety Will Fehrs to "B" team running back Hunter Luckow, the Falcons could do it all. Joe Puca starred at running back and defensive end for the "A" squad. So many players contributed to the team's success that Finley was able to keep many of its foes off balance.
The Falcons' offensive and defensive lines were solid, opening gaping holes for running backs and pressuring opposing quarterbacks. Finley outscored its opponents by a lopsided margin of 110-60.
With so many good players in the proverbial "pipeline" Blue Devil varsity head coach Steve Muller can only smile when he thinks about the program's future.
