AP Microeconomics Offered to Huntington Students

The Huntington High School Social Studies Department offers a course in Advanced Placement Microeconomics. The class meets every other day for an entire year. Upon completion, students earn one-half academic credit. The class is open only to seniors. To register, students must obtain a recommendation from a teacher and have attained a grade of at least an 85 in AP U.S. History or at least a 90 in Regents level U.S. History.

"This course includes an introduction to economic theory and the course studies business structure and economics at the individual and societal level," according to an official class description. "It is for all college-bound seniors with special interest in business, accounting, finance, banking and pre-law. It is highly recommended that a student be proficient in mathematical computations to understand the underlying economics principles that are inherent in this course."

Veteran faculty member James Graber, who teaches the course, has been highly popular with the students enrolled in the course. Mr. Graber seems to have a special way of making difficult concepts easily understandable.

Joseph Leavy, district director of humanities, praised Mr. Graber's "extraordinary efforts in guiding his students toward success in this very difficult course, year after year."

Students enrolled in the course sit for the AP Microeconomics exam in the spring. For more information about the course contact Joseph Leavy, director of humanities at 673-2079 or jleavy@hufsd.edu.
