Finley Field Hockey Finishes at 6-3-1
Kacie Rubert and Anna Tesoriero led the J. Taylor Finley Middle School field hockey team to a 6-3-1 record this past fall. The 33-member squad was coached by veteran Nancy Conlon.
The eighth grade Rubert scored seven goals from her inner position. "Kacie is fast and very skilled," Conlon said. "She dribble in-and-out of the defense and gets the ball to the goal."
Tesoriero, also an eighth grade inner, picked up a team-high six assists. "She is powerful and has drives that are tough to stop," Conlon said. "Anna is a leader on-and-off the field."
Finley's victories came against North Babylon-Robert Moses (1-0), Copiague (3-0), Babylon (4-2), Commack (3-0), Lindenhurst (2-0) and Half Hollow Hills-Candlewood (4-0).
The Falcons are traditionally one of Suffolk's better middle school field hockey teams. Conlon has long guided the program and is a former Blue Devil field hockey great herself. She runs an organized practice and her teams always possess very strong fundamentals.
"This year's team was fun and energetic," Conlon said. "They got along well, both on-and-off the field." Two of the three Falcon losses were by 1-0 scores. Finley outscored its opponents, 17-7.
Tesoriero, Ryan Goldsmith, Katerra Griffin and Charlotte Levinson captained the squad. Next year's team is already shaping up to be a solid one. "I have 12 girls who can return next year," Conlon said.
