Huntington School Board Notes

Huntington School Board members approved a retirement request by Joan Esposito, secretary to the superintendent of schools. The retirement becomes effective at the close of business on March, 11, 2011. Trustees took the action at their meeting on Dec. 6.

Trustees also approved a probationary appointment for Dr. Kenneth Card as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. He had been working in an interim capacity since August 25, 2009 and had been on a leave of absence as the Woodhull School principal. Dr. Card's probationary period will run through August 25, 2012.

Washington School teacher Adrienne DiMaggio was approved for a leave of absence effective Dec. 23 to approximately March 25, 2011. Huntington High School social studies teacher William Byrne was approved to return from a leave of absence, effective Dec. 6.

Trustees also took the following actions:

• Approved Devin Aurrichio as a probationary art teacher at Huntington High School. The probationary period is retroactive to Sept. 1 and will run to Sept. 1, 2013.

• Approved Debra Smith to work as a part-time monitor at Flower Hill School, effective Dec. 6.

• Authorized long-term substitute teacher appointments for Catherine Alexander (Flower Hill classroom), Dana Francis (high school, science), Denise Novello (Washington, special education) and Brooke Bene (Southdown, classroom).

• Approved Karen Braun as the assistant director for Finley drama club.

• Authorized the addition of Michael Fabio, Jennifer Montoya, Laurel Uvena, Elizabeth Fiore, Susan Painter and Thomas Graziano to the district's substitute teacher list.
