Dangerous Scorer Lifts
Blue Devil JV Soccer
Freshman striker Jose Campos has all the makings of a future Huntington soccer star. He's quick, athletic and possesses first class skills. He's also adept at putting the ball in the net.
Campos led the Blue Devil JV team to a 9-6-1 record this past fall, 7-5 in league play. "Jose is a very active striker, fast and dangerous with the ball at his feet," Huntington coach Jose Alfaro said. Campos scored nine goals and added three assists.
The Blue Devils were captained by Jonathan Ceide, Philip Hofsiss and Patrick Wolber. Ten different Huntington players scored goals. The 24-member squad was an energetic group. "Every single player stepped up when asked to play," Alfaro said. All 24 players appeared in every game.
Ceide (8 goals, 1 assist) and Gelb (2 goals) also turned in outstanding seasons. Ceide, a talented junior, was a persistent presence on the field, "great with both feet, a good midfielder who can score in high pressure situations," Alfaro said.
Gelb, an impressive freshman, displayed "an incredible work ethic" and is "strong and fast" with a "good understanding of the game and field," Alfaro said.
Huntington was on the cusp of a special season, but suffered several one goal losses. Still, this was a solid team. "This was a great group of kids," Alfaro said, adding that the Blue Devil squad was filled with "excellent players" and he had plenty of support.
Looking ahead toward next fall, Alfaro said the contingent coming from Finley is comprised of very good players that "should bring even more talent to the high school program."
