Flower Hill PTA Honors
Reflections Participants

Flower Hill Primary School students are a creative bunch. Nearly two dozen youngsters recently participated in PTA Reflections, a national arts recognition program.
The creative works adhered to the program's 2010 theme: "Together We Can." Huntington High School art honor society members served as judges for the contest. A small group of select pieces were chosen to advance to the next level of competition. Principal Marlon Small presented certificates of recognition to each of this year's participants.
Students in every grade level are eligible to participate in six categories: literature, dance choreography, film/video production, musical composition, photography and the visual arts, including such forms as drawing, painting, printmaking and collage.
"An arts education is important to the educational growth of children," said Charles J. Saylors, National PTA president. "That's why we're proud that PTA Reflections, in its more than 40 years, has given millions of students a way to express themselves through the arts. We're excited for Flower Hill and the creative energy of their students."
According to the National PTA, "the Reflections program has encouraged students across the nation and in American schools overseas to explore their artistic talents. PTA believes that all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in the annual Reflections program. Students in preschool through grade 12 are invited to create and submit works of art in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts."
Although the Reflections program follows a contest format, organizers are quick to point out that an emphasis is not placed on winning. Yet, the top entries in each category will now advance to the next level of competition and will face a new round of stringent judging.
