Teenagers Spruce up Foreign Language Office

These teenagers not only speak a second language, but can paint words in it, too. Members of Huntington High School’s Spanish Honor Society recently took on a colorful project and spruced up the foreign language department’s office.

The students painted the words “welcome” and “hello” in Spanish, Italian, French, Latin, Chinese, Creole, Greek, Russian, English and even Hawaiian. “The idea came about when we were thinking of ways to brighten and cheer up the office,” said Lori Bennett, a secretary in the department office.

Spanish Honor Society members Chelsea Hines, Sara Lustberg, Jeremy Rhodes, Alexandra Kimchy and Michaela Acton worked their magic with a paint brush along with three native language arts students, José and Luis Cordero and Isaias Granados.

The small space was definitely in need of some new decorating. At one point in the past it was used as a closet. Director of Facilities Paul Rispoli allowed Ms. Bennett to choose the colors and Operations Supervisor Al White had the paint professionally mixed and delivered it to the work site.

Visitors to the office have been impressed with the students’ work and the teenagers themselves feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in their efforts.
