An Amazing Experience

After coordinating the trip to the Greenkill Outdoor Education Center for so many years you would think Allison VonVange would be hard to impress. Wrong. “It was absolutely gorgeous weather and the kids were amazing,” she said about this year’s journey by the Jack Abrams Intermediate School sixth graders.

“They learned a new game called ‘Ninja’ that they’ve been playing since they got back,” Mrs. VonVange said. “I think it is one of the best experiences in their elementary careers and one they will remember for years to come!”

The students were impressed with the trip, too. “The activities were very fun and were so amazing I didn’t have time to feel homesick,” said one youngster. “Greenkill was great because of all the great exercise that the students got from all the long hikes,” another young man said. “I would say the food was good and better than the school food.”

Another youngster came home with a thick set of memories. “My favorite experience at Greenkill was when we had to build our own shelters,” he said. “I also liked it when we made our own fire to cook our own food. I think Greenkill was awesome and exciting to experience.”

One sixth grader echoed the feelings of many classmates: “Everything about Greenkill was fun, fascinating and interesting,” she said. “However, my favorite part was hiking up to the ridge. The view was gorgeous.”
