Sports Participation Strong at Huntington High School

 

Spring season sports participation is running strong at Huntington High School, according to figures released by the athletic department. Coaches have reported a total of 345 student-athletes on the rosters of the 13 teams the school is fielding.

 

The boys’ varsity spring track and field team is bigger than any other squad this spring with 44 athletes filling its ranks followed closely behind by the junior varsity boys’ lacrosse team with a roster of 43 and the co-ed crew team with 42 members.

 

The girls’ varsity spring track and field team has 39 athletes on its roster, followed by the JV girls’ lacrosse team with 29 members and varsity boys’ lacrosse team with 27 players. There are 24 varsity girls’ lacrosse players this spring.

 

Blue Devil varsity baseball carries a 17-player roster while its JV counterpart features 20 players. The softball program includes 13 varsity players and 20 on the JV team. The boys’ tennis program has 13 players on the varsity team and 14 on the JV squad.

 

According to Huntington Director of Athletic Georgia D. McCarthy, there are 178 members of the seven boys’ teams, 125 athletes on the five girls’ teams and 42 members of the one co-ed team. There are 23 coaches involved with the high school spring program.
