Booster Club to Sponsor Co-ed Summer Fencing Camp
Fencers take notice: a summer co-ed camp is on the way. Sponsored by the Huntington Booster Club, the camp will be held at Jack Abrams Intermediate School on July 19-22 from 5 - 8 p.m. It is open to students entering grades four through nine. The registration fee is $125. A ten percent sibling discount is available.
“The goal of the camp is to improve individual skill levels and to develop a fundamental understanding of basic fencing,” according to the camp brochure. Sessions will be directed by Huntington fencing coaches Alan Kuver and Michael Fabio.
The camp program will feature a small instructor-to-athlete ratio to maximize teaching and learning. Beginner and intermediate skill levels are welcome to attend. An emphasis will be placed on skill building in a fun, caring environment.
Huntington has a proud fencing tradition. Many Blue Devil fencers have gone on to success on the collegiate level, including competing on NCAA championship squads and earning All-American honors. The summer camp is expected to contribute to the development of the next generation of champions. It will also undoubtedly serve as an enjoyable summer evening activity for young people in the community.
