Huntington Poet to be Honored on HART Buses

Huntington High School sophomore Holly Blakley’s work is going to be splashed all around town after her poem, “Different, Broken, Beautiful, Better,” was one of just 15 selected for display on HART (Huntington Area Rapid Transit) buses.

Ms. Blakley is enrolled in a creative writing class taught by Kelly Quintero Lashley and is also a student in teacher Aimee Antorino’s English 10 Honors course. She is the editor of Huntington’s literary magazine Etcetera, where she works with teacher-advisor Ken Krummenacker.

Ms. Blakley’s poem was one of 211 entered in this year’s Poetry for the HART competition. Two other Huntington students received honorable mention recognition in the competition. The honorees, seniors Rebecca Silverman (“Clouds”) and Casey Singer (“The Chance”), are enrolled in Mrs. Quintero Lashley's AP English Literature class.

All three poets will be honored in an awards ceremony later this month at the Walt Whitman Birthplace in Melville.
