“Meet Me in St. Louis” on Huntington Stage this Weekend

A fun time for folks of all ages seems assured at this weekend’s Huntington High School drama club production. The curtain rises at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 16 and 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 17 in the spacious and comfortable school auditorium. Tickets are available at the door.

When the lights dim and the music begins to play patrons can sink into their cushy chairs for a thoroughly enjoyable performance of “Meet Me in St. Louis,” a stage production based on the 1944 MGM motion picture. Memorable musical numbers include “The Boy Next Door,” “A Raving Beauty,” “The Trolley Song,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Whenever I’m with You” and “A Day in New York. “

“Battling loss of time due to snow days and spring recess and a mere 32 rehearsals, the cast is ready to share all their hard work,” drama club advisor Michael Schwendemann said. “The set is painted, the lights are hung, the costumes are stitched, the lines are memorized; all that’s missing is the audience.”

The production tells the story of a happy family’s life on the eve of the revolutionary 1904 World’s Fair, which was held in St. Louis. It includes 17 songs, many of which were made famous in the movie version of the show.

Dozens of students are involved in every aspect of the production, from acting to set construction, lighting, sound and music and numerous other responsibilities.

Tickets ($10 general admission, $5 for students, staff and senior citizens) will be available in the auditorium lobby prior to each show. The facility is completely handicapped accessible.
