No Title but Blue Devil Football Dinner Festive
While the Huntington football didn’t win a championship last fall, the Blue Devils’ annual awards dinner this month was still an upbeat affair. A large crowd filled the school cafeteria to near capacity as players and parents settled in for three hours of food, good conversation and lofty words of praise from coaches for a group of hardworking Blue Devils.
There was so much food that some hungry players filled up their plates three or even four times. Huntington coaches were decked out in jackets and ties and players came dressed in business attire, including an assortment of colorful neckwear.
“We love this night,” one player said. The crowd watched a multi-media presentation of season highlights and nearly two dozen awards were dispersed by coaches to members of the varsity, junior varsity and seventh and eighth grade teams.
“This is a special night for all of us,” assistant coach Todd Jamison said. “We have a great group of guys. Getting every together like this is fun. It’s a real family atmosphere. It was nice to see all kids dressed up.”
Blue Devil head coach Steve Muller was in a good mood, visiting tables and exuding confidence about the future. Huntington looks to be vastly improved next fall as its young team matures.
“I told Steve Muller and a couple of parents that we should no longer call our annual football awards dinner a ‘dinner’ but rather a party because that’s exactly what we had,” assistant coach Ron Wilson said. “Parents, athletes and coaches enjoyed one another’s company as we celebrated their accomplishments this year.”
