Retired Jefferson Custodian Fred Rocco Passes Away
Fred Joseph Rocco, a longtime Huntington School District head custodian who was well-known to the Jefferson Elementary School community, passed away March 26. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Rocco lived in Huntington Station and was a familiar figure around town. In addition to working as a custodian at Jefferson, he was also the school’s crossing guard.
A memorial visitation will be held at A.L. Jacobsen Funeral Home (located on the corner of New York Avenue and Pulaski Road) on Sunday, April 11 from 1-5 p.m. A service is scheduled for 3 p.m. that day.
Mr. Rocco, who proud of his service in the United States Marines, was born July 30, 1928 and lived his entire life in the Huntington area. He began working for the Huntington School District on January 5, 1960 when he was assigned to Robert K. Toaz Junior High School. He retired on December 31, 1984.
Those who knew him in the Huntington School District recall his remarkable sense of humor, enthusiastic laugh and willingness to help anyone who wanted or needed it. He enjoyed a very active retirement.
Mr. Rocco is survived by two sons, two daughters, and their spouses, two sisters and five grandchildren.
