Huntington Coach Corp.
Earns Green Certification

The Huntington Coach Corporation, which transports thousands of Huntington School District students each day, has earned the National School Transportation Association's Green School Bus Fleet certification.
The green certification recognizes Huntington Coach for its commitment to improving the environment through cleaner school bus fleets and company-wide practices to reduce engine exhaust emissions and conserve fuel.
The program is the only green fleet certification to carry the endorsement of the federal Environmental Protection Agency. The program recognizes qualifying NSTA members for their effort in working toward a cleaner environment through the use of available EPA/CARB verified technologies as well as new bus technology.
Huntington Coach is the first fleet on Long Island to be awarded the designation and one of only a handful of fleets in the country to be so honored.
"We congratulate our friends at Huntington Coach for being one of the leaders in the school transportation industry," Huntington Superintendent John J. Finello said. "Over the years we have enjoyed a very positive working relationship with the company and hope it continues."
Huntington Coach's green efforts include:
- Company-wide idle reduction and fuel conservation programs.
- 50% of its school bus fleet is model year 2004 or newer. School buses that are built in 2004 or later emit six times less pollution than those built prior to 2004.
- 32% of its school bus fleet is compliant with the EPA's 2007 engine emission requirements. School buses built to meet the 2007 engine standards emit sixty times less pollution than older, non-compliant models.
- Use of ultra low sulfur in its school buses, which produces 97% less sulfur than fuels sold just a few years ago. Using cleaner fuels reduces the output of harmful particulate matter, hydrocarbon, and carbon monoxide emissions.
"Huntington Coach saves Long Island parents more than $7.9 million in fuel costs each year compared to driving their children to school, reducing Long Island's fuel usage by more than 1.7 million gallons of gasoline, and cutting the LI carbon footprint by more than 10,000 tons of CO2 per year," according to the company.
Huntington Coach has long been recognized for their superior fleet maintenance and safety program, including recognition by School Bus Fleet magazine as having one of the top ten school bus maintenance programs in North America in 2004.
Brendan Clifford, Vice President of Huntington Coach Corporation says,
"We're very proud to have earned this certification," said Brendan Clifford, Huntington Coach Corp. vice-president. "Not only is the yellow school bus the safest way for children to travel to and from school, it is also one of the greenest. We at Huntington Coach are doing our small part to make school transportation more eco-friendly."
Huntington Coach Corp. has been family own since 1927. It is headquartered in Huntington Station and operates over 600 school buses for nearly 20 school districts and camps on Long Island.
