It's been a long year for the Huntington boys' volleyball team. But, the Blue Devils recently enjoyed an exciting five-game victory over Westhampton Beach, 23-25, 28-26, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23.
Huntington's John McCarthy (31) and David Stillman (21) combined for 52 kills to pace the offense. Michael Sullivan had eight blocks at the net and 10 kills. Mitchell Johnson had 38 assists and Ryan Casale added 30 assists.
Cristina is Wonderful
The Huntington girls' soccer team topped visiting Hauppauge, 1-0 when Cristina Badalamenti took a feed from teammate Emma Hayes-Hurley and scored the game's only goal. It was a huge victory for the Blue Devils, who took 17 shots on goal.
Huntington goalie Hannah Burnett was nothing short of amazing in goal, recording 13 saves and preserving the shutout.
Ward Melville Shuts-out H-Ton
The undefeated Ward Melville field hockey team proved to be too strong for Huntington, which fell to the host team, 4-0. Blue Devil goalie Maggie Lombardo made 12 saves against the Patriots' powerful offense.
Takekoshi's Best Time
Celine Takekoshi ran her best time of the season in the Huntington girls' cross country team's regular season ending loss to Harborfields. Takekoshi covered the course at Sunken Meadow State Park in 20:53. Teammates Kerri-Ann Giambruno and Alexandra Martinolich placed ninth and tenth, respectively.
The entire Blue Devil squad ran season-best times. The meet marked the last league competition for Huntington seniors Gabby Mitchell and Danielle Shannon.
Victory on Penalty Strokes
After battling Walt Whitman to 1-1 tie through overtime, the Huntington field hockey team finally prevailed in the penalty stroke tie-breaker, scoring three times during that phase.
Kianna Freitag scored the lone Blue Devil in regulation and then Colleen Wright, Jillian Kocis and Samantha Palmer scored penalty strokes to clinch the victory.
Katherine Shirley recorded one save in goal.
Badalamenti Scores Twice
Cristina Badalamenti scored two goals to lead the Huntington girls' soccer team over Harborfields, 6-1. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 2-0 halftime advantage before outscoring the Tornadoes in the second-half, 4-1.
Huntington's Emma Hayes-Hurley scored a goal and had three assists. Tara Narine, Allison Mehring and Lauren Gerbavits also scored. Kim Smith, Sarah Ehrman and Katie Healy contributed assists. Hannah Burnett made six saves in goal.
Marquez Goal Nets Win
Huntington's Carlos Marquez scored off a feed by Jon Pena midway through the first half and goalie E.J. Connell made four saves as the Blue Devil boys' soccer team nipped Deer Park, 1-0. Bobby Scott also shared in the assist. Huntington's offense was clicking with 12 shots on goal.
Arciprete Scores Lone Goal
Emily Arciprete scored the lone Blue Devil field hockey goal in a 3-1 loss to Sachem East. Huntington had just two shots on goal. Isabel Sorrentino made six saves in goal for the Blue Devils.
Hannah Burnett is Sensational
The Huntington girls' soccer team managed only five shots on goal in a scoreless tie at Kings Park. The Blue Devils were unable to get much offense going. That put increased pressure on goalie Hannah Burnett, who had to be perfect, as was just that. The sophomore stopped 14 shots and helped the Blue Devils walk away with a tie.
Connell's Masterpiece
Huntington senior E.J. Connell made five nifty saves in goal and Ricky Velasquez scored in the first and second halves off of assists by Christian Campos and Christian Caballero to pace the Blue Devils to a 2-0 win over visiting West Babylon.
Where's the Scoring?
The Huntington field hockey team fired off six shots but couldn't score in a 3-0 loss at Northport. Maggie Lombardo recorded four saves in goal.
Huntington Runners Are Strong at Invitational
The Huntington girls' cross country team enjoyed a strong performance in the Nassau Coaches Invitational. Celine Takekoshi placed third and Alexandra Martinolich finished 15th. The Blue Devil's sophomore team, which was led by Kerri-Ann Giambruno, Margaret Petryk, Samantha Martinez, Adelia Witt and Ana Ruzic, was fourth in the standings.
Strong Second-Half Means Victory
The Huntington field hockey team broke a scoreless tie with a pair of second-half goals by juniors Kari Peer and Emily Arciprete to defeat host Newfield, 2-0. Junior Colleen Wright picked-up an assist. Junior Maggie Lombardo made a save in goal for the Blue Devils.
