Questions and Answers with Cody Jacobs
Q: How old are you and what grade are you in?
Jacobs: I'm 17 and a senior.
Q: How did you first get interested in photography?
Jacobs: I first became interested in photography after I looked through my mother's old portfolio. My grandparents took photography and even made a darkroom in their house, which inspired my mom to take classes at FIT and then, in turn, inspired me to become interested in photography.
Q: Where do you get your ideas?
Jacobs: Usually my ideas are more spur of the moment. I bring my camera with me everywhere.
Q: Is there any specific type of photography you like best?
Jacobs: My favorite type of photography is always on location. I like when I capture a moment and it is more than a snap shot. I have always dreamed that one day I could be a National Geographic photographer, but recently I have become interested in projects where I base it all on one idea.
Q: How has the Huntington photography program helped you with your love of photography?
Jacobs: The Huntington photography program has been a great way to explore different ideas and expand on my own knowledge about photography, both conceptually and technically. Having access to a black and white darkroom and Photoshop is great and I am really lucky to be in the photography program. The teachers are really great, too.
Q: Do you plan to continue with photography or go to school for it?
Jacobs: I plan on studying photography next year and am currently looking at The University of Concordia in Montreal. I hope one day I can combine my love for traveling and photography together, and maybe I will work for National Geographic.
