Huntington Loves the Highsteppers
Huntington Highsteppers' coaches Lora Ayala and Kristen Margraf have put together an enthusiastic and skilled team this year. In two recent halftime performances at Blue Devil varsity football games, the Highsteppers impressed those of all ages with their smooth hip moves.
The Highsteppers are Huntington High School's competitive dance team. The program has earned more than a few awards over the years, including state and national honors. More could be on the way based upon early reviews of the current team.
This year's squad is captained by Aliyah Cohen, Alexa Giammarino and Kelly McConnell. The team includes Jessica Harris, Mary Maiorello, Caroline Doscas, Chrissy O'Grady, Alex Smith, Livi MacVicar-Flug, Bianca Iarrobino, Brittney Robinson-Smikle, Katie Fleming, Kylie Phelan, Kristin Berner, Esti Lodge, Ashley Angstadt, Scarlett Lopez, Liz Sager and Alexa Gorczycki.
The Highsteppers have been known to travel out-of-the-area or even out-of-state in search of top competitions. The team and its dedicated parent association works throughout the year on community service and fundraising events to offset expenses connected with special events the group seeks out beyond its regular season activities.
