District Officials Keep Eye on Enrollment Figures
The most recent enrollment analysis released by the Huntington School District shows there are now 4,442 students ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade spread across eight buildings. District executives and trustees are keeping a close eye on the figures as a continuing space crunch is gaining increased attention.
Huntington High School currently has 1,253 students enrolled in the four grades houses there, including 256 seniors, 294 juniors, 349 sophomores and 354 freshmen. There are 670 students at J. Taylor Finley Middle School, including 356 in the seventh grade and 314 eighth graders.
Woodhull Intermediate School has 523 students in grades four through six on its rolls. Jack Abrams Intermediate School has an enrollment of 515 students.
With 390 students, Washington Primary School is the largest of the four primary buildings in the district followed by Flower Hill (374), Southdown (360) and Jefferson (357).
Other than the two new classrooms that were constructed at Woodhull School last winter, the district has not built onto any of its schools since a new wing was added to Huntington High School in the mid-1960’s. New instructional space at buildings has been created mainly by converting what had been storage areas.
