Huntington School Board members have appointed Dr. David J. Weissberg to serve as the doctor at football games during the 2009 season. He has provided such services for many years and will be paid $200 per game. His office is located at 175 East Main Street in Huntington.

 

Dr. Weissberg earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry in 1976 cum laude and obtained his MD at SUNY Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn in 1980. He completed an internship at Kings County Hospital and a residency at Stony Brook University Hospital in orthopedic medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is affiliated with Huntington Hospital and the Melville Surgery Center.

 

Dr. Weissberg, who is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, is a member of the State Orthopaedic Society, the Arthroscopy Association of North American and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Islip Tops Huntington in Football

The Huntington football team dropped a 35-7 verdict last Friday night at Islip in stormy weather. The Buccaneers are viewed as a legitimate contender for the Suffolk Division III championship and the Blue Devils are a young squad with new players at a host of positions.

 

On the junior varsity level, Huntington and Islip battled to a 20-20 tie Saturday morning at Blue Devil Field in a well-attended and exciting game that saw the lead change hands several times.

Blue Devil Girls’ Tennis Wins

The Huntington varsity girls’ tennis team won its first meet of the season when it downed Walt Whitman, 5-1, on the wings of singles players Sara Lustberg, Karly Kocis, Alexandra Ottas and Olivia Ammirati and doubles duo Kristin Hartmann and Holly Flores. Players complimented each other for turning in “spectacular matches.”

 

Last fall Lustberg was named All-League, after going 6-2 in second singles and 2-2 in the difficult No. 1 slot.

Heartbreaking Last Minute Loss

The Huntington girls’ soccer team lost 5-4 last Saturday morning when Commack scored on a penalty kick with 1:02 remaining in the non-league game. Cristina Badalamenti had earlier knotted the score at 4-4 when she found the back of the net for the Blue Devils.

 

Huntington also received goals from Emma Hayes-Hurley, Courtney O’Brien and Meredith McCourt. Angela Bosco picked up two assists. Lori Messina (four) and Hannah Burnett (three) combined to make seven saves in goal for the Blue Devils.

Athletic Donation

Huntington School District parent Marc Saputo has donated a Sony Hi-Fi/CD stereo shelf system valued at $225 to the athletic department for use in the Huntington High School weight room located on the downstairs level. “On behalf of the coaching staff and athletes, we graciously accept this donation,” said Georgia D. McCarthy, director of physical education, health and interscholastic athletics.

Blue Devils’ Girls’ Soccer on MSG

When Half Hollow Hills West High School’s girls’ soccer team visits Huntington on Tues. Sept. 29 to take on the Blue Devils, MSG Varsity will be there with its cameras to televise the game. The network is a Cablevision local television channel.

Finley Tennis Coach

Marissa Bergmann has been appointed as the girls’ tennis coach at J. Taylor Finley Middle School. She is a 2004 graduate of Huntington High School and obtained a bachelor’s degree at Purdue University in Indiana.
