Woodhull School Goes Skating

A child’s school experience isn’t just about reading, writing and arithmetic. Sometimes it centers on just plain fun. That’s what 125 Woodhull Intermediate School students discovered at a recent evening event at United Skates of America in Seaford.

“It was a wonderful experience for all who participated,” said Woodhull Principal Jarrett Stein. “The rink was packed with the students, parents and families of Woodhull. The students showed off their skating prowess by buzzing around the rink. It was nice to see all the kids get along so well and gave parents an opportunity to meet their child's peers and fellow parents. We're already in discussions with the rink to set another date this spring.”

The unique night was put together by parent volunteer Carolyn Keys, who said she “had so much fun” organizing it. Mr. Stein brought along his daughter Morgan, who fit right in with Woodhull students as they all circled the rink on skates.

“The kids made a big loud cheer when the D.J. announced that the new principal was in the house,” Mrs. Keys said. The large group from Woodhull enjoyed skating, dancing, eating and making new friends and enjoying longtime pals.

“There were also some parents who joined in for the fun,” Mrs. Keys said. Echoing Mr. Stein, she said the night “was such a hit that there has been a request to have another evening of skating fun in the spring.”

Students were charged a flat fee that covered admission, skates, a slice of hot pizza and a cold drink. “We hope more teachers will join us in the spring and bring their children, too,” Mrs. Keys said.

“A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Keys for putting together such an enjoyable and successful night,” Mr. Stein said.
