Big Second Half Gives Blue Devils First Victory

A second half surge before a homecoming day crowd of nearly 2,000 gave the Huntington varsity football team its first victory of the year as the Blue Devils topped Harborfields, 27-7 last Saturday afternoon.

Huntington’s ground game put on a show as Calvin Bollar and Ryan Mulligan churned out yardage, pounding the ball through the line and running to daylight. Bollar rushed 22 times for 136 yards and a touchdown and Mulligan carried nine times for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Bollar also completed four-of-seven passes for 25 yards, including a second quarter 10-yard touchdown strike to Tyre Brown to put the first points of the game on the scoreboard.

Huntington (1-5) has struggled this year, especially on offense. But, in the second half against Harborfields (2-5), the Blue Devils exploded for 21 unanswered points, much to the delight of its fans.

Senior Peter Knutson, a 6’1, 185 lb. linebacker recorded a staggering 18 tackles to pace Huntington’s defensive unit. Hard-hitting senior Ricardo Caballero added 10 tackles and recovered a key fumble. Bollar also picked off a pass and made five tackles. Peter Kingston added three tackles and forced a fumble.

The Blue Devils will close their season with a pair of road games, taking on powerful Half Hollow Hills West this Saturday (Oct. 24) at 2 p.m. and traveling to Miller Place on Saturday, October 31 for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
