Catching up with Marco Lagone

Marco Lagone is far from the sandy shores of Huntington. Now he’s in Longhorn country at the University of Texas at Austin. His first semester there couldn’t be going any better. He’s enjoying every experience that comes his way.

“The University of Texas is the greatest place ever,” said Mr. Lagone during a recent interview. “I’m having the best time of my life. As a student of the prestigious McCombs School of Business, I have already been able to take advantage of several of the seemingly innumerable opportunities it has to offer. I have met many people through freshmen business programs and trips and plan on joining a few of the business organizations.”

The Huntington grad always had a reputation for rolling with the punches and not taking himself too seriously. He’s known as a student who takes the time to exquisitely prepare for his classes and continued that trait in Texas. “The business school has incredible facilities that I use daily for various purposes,” Mr. Lagone said. “I’ve kept up with my studying and have received high marks on all quizzes, exams and projects so far.”

Mr. Lagone was a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society and English Honor Society at Huntington High School. He earned the Citizen of Leadership and Carmela Santorsola Provenzano scholarships and the Office of State Comptroller Award. He earned varsity letters with the wrestling and tennis teams, earning the Coach’s Award in the latter as a senior.

To stay on top of his workload and to excel in his class requires plenty of effort, but it isn’t all consuming. “Of course, there is sufficient time for fun,” Mr. Lagone said. “I typically play basketball at the gym at least five times a week. The weekends here are incredible. I’m always up for the partying, especially on game day. Last week I tailgated with a spirit group that televised pre-game for the Texas-Texas Tech game. There is tremendous school spirit; and we get amped up for every game.” Think “Texas . . . Fight!”

“I think I may actually wrestle for the club team, a passion that has been hard to give up,” Mr. Lagone said. “All in all, I’ve met some real good people and it’s been a phenomenal experience.”
