Blue Devil Crew Raises Bucks at Chili’s

Supporters of the Blue Devil crew team helped raise several hundred dollars at Chili’s Restaurant in East Northport, stopping by for lunch or dinner on a recent day. A portion of the proceeds generated by dinners using a special event coupon were donated back to the Huntington program.

The Blue Devils wrapped up their fall crew schedule by taking a silver medal and three bronze medals in the Frostbite Regatta off Centre Island earlier this month. The Chili’s fundraiser was a celebration of sorts, commemorating another superb season and setting the stage for future success.

Friends and family of the crew team filled and re-filled a section of tables over the course of the night, enjoying each other’s company and the chance to get together for a good cause – raising funds necessary to purchase the equipment needed to keep the team competitive and safe on the water.

Dee Kitzen, president of the Friends of Huntington Crew parent’s organization, was enthusiastic about the warm welcome she received when she called an assistant manager at Chili’s to ask him about a fund-raising event at the restaurant. “Keith was terrific to work with,” Dee commented, “and the other Chili’s assistant manager, Laura, and their wait staff were so gracious the night we gathered there, serving our large group. Everyone enjoyed a great meal and had a really good time.”

Chili’s provided the team with a flyer for the event. The crew team made and distributed copies, so that when a Huntington crew flyer was presented with a meal check anytime during the day, Chili’s automatically donated 10 percent of the bill to the crew team. It was a win-win for Huntington crew and for Chili’s.
