District’s State Aid to Surpass Budgeted Amount
As state legislators so far appear to have little interest in Governor David Paterson’s proposal to enact sweeping mid-year state aid cuts to public school districts in New York, the Huntington School District now expects to receive about $289,000 more aid than was originally budgeted for last spring.
“The state has analyzed all of our 2008/09 enrollment and financial data and has generated the various output reports detailing our actual state aid for 2009/10,” explained David H. Grackin, assistant superintendent for finance and management services. He said the spring figures are merely estimates and final numbers are only issued after the district submits various reports to state officials.
The district now pegs its state aid at $12,972,282 for the 2009/10 school year. “This is good news for our taxpayers,” Superintendent John J. Finello said.
