Scholars Breakfast Honors Huntington’s Best
Several dozen Huntington High School students were feted during a recent Scholars Breakfast in the cafeteria. The event, organized by Principal Carmela Leonardi, drew parents, teachers and district officials.
The early morning breakfast was a time for the teenagers to take a bow. School Board President Bill Dwyer beamed during a recitation of each student’s academic accomplishments. Parents took photos and chatted amiably with the honorees were rightly proud to be in the spotlight.
Dr. Leonardi introduced Rebecca Silverman and Alanna Tieman as the Class of 2010’s valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively. Samuel Sainthil and Alexander Chisolm were extolled as National Achievement Scholarship program semi-finalists.
The breakfast also honored AP Scholars Michaela Acton, Lauren Campbell, Alexander Chisolm, Tatiana DiPaola, Lena Freed, Justin Greenidge, Maya Horton, Luke Reigot and Nicholas Schoen; AP Scholars with honor Johanna Clifford, Caitlin Etri, Haley Garofalo, Alexandra Kimchy, Samuel Sainthil, Max Smoller and Clare Tonks and AP Scholars with distinction Everett Coraor, Anthony Kouttron, Thomas Monks, Daniel Rabinowitz, Rebecca Silverman, Colleen Teubner, Alanna Tieman and Ariel Wertheim.
Dr. Leonardi told the crowd that Rebecca Silverman has advanced to the semi-finals of this year’s National Merit Scholarship program. Everett Coraor, Kieran Fell, Maya Horton and Ariel Wertheim were also honored as National Merit “commended students” for 2010.
When the breakfast was over, the students hurried off to classes in every corner of the school. The talented group of seniors hasn’t let up one bit even as graduation nears.
