Teenagers Decked out for Flannel Friday
It was “Flannel Friday” late last week in Huntington High School’s room 201. Students earned two extra points for their grade by bringing in two cans of food items and wearing flannel.
Business teacher Suzie Biagi developed the idea as a way to help replenish local food pantries after she read an article in a local paper highlighting the increasing empty shelves in those facilities. It was also an opportunity for class members to participate in a good old-fashioned community service related activity.
“Our classroom drive was so successful we are already planning a ‘Thermal Thursday’ for the second marking period,” Mrs. Biagi said. “It’s a great way for everyone to get involved and have a little fun at the same time.”
This same class also has the option of dressing up every Wednesday for extra points. “I especially want the seniors to realize that presentation is important and when we dress professionally we feel more professional,” Mrs. Biagi said. “It’s a great lesson for the Senior Portfolio students who this time next year will be forging into the next chapter of their lives where their professionalism will be judged every day.”
