Blue Devils Saved Best for Last
The Huntington football team closed out a long season with a victory last weekend as the Blue Devils scored 21 second half points to top Miller Place on the road, 28-21.
The Panthers struck first, scoring the game’s first touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Huntington (2-6) knotted the score on a 1-yard plunge by Ricardo Caballero, who also booted the extra point. The two teams went into halftime tied, 7-7.
Miller Place regained the lead on a 90-yard kick-off return to open the second half. Then the Blue Devil offense finally found its stride. Quaran Carter (8 carries for 41 yards) sprinted 12-yards for Huntington’s second touchdown and Calvin Bollar (14 rushes for 128 yards) skirted 20-yards to give Huntington its first lead of the afternoon. Caballero followed each touchdown by booting the extra point.
Miller Place (0-8) responded again, tying the score in the fourth quarter with another long run, this time for 40-yards. Bollar then took command on a perfectly executed 60-yard touchdown run with about five minutes remaining on the clock. Caballero made it 4-for-4 when he split the uprights again for the extra point, giving the Blue Devils their winning margin.
