Huntington Musicians to Play at All-County Festival

A dozen Huntington High School musicians have been selected at the 53rd All-County Music Festival, joining 600 other top musicians from across Suffolk at a professional level concert scheduled for Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. in the Hauppauge High School auditorium.

Huntington’s contingent includes orchestra members Joseph D’Esposito (violin), Taylor Fritts (viola), Lena Freed (double bass) and Evan McCann (tuba), band members Max Smoller (trumpet), Kieran McCarthy Fell (flute), Caitlin Etri (flute), Mikah Feldman-Stein (clarinet) and Adam Cerini (clarinet), tenor Ariel Wertheim, alto Anna Harris and soprano Mary-Liz O’Neill.

The prestigious event is co-sponsored by the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education and the Suffolk County Music Educator’s Assn.

Qualifying for the All-County festival is “very competitive,” according to Joan R. Fretz, Huntington’s director of fine and performing arts. The musicians will participate in rigorous rehearsals prior to the public concert. They are expected to play a series of compositions that some professional organizations wouldn’t even attempt due to the demands of the parts.
