Town Presents District with Keys to Donated Car
In a move that will pay immediate dividends to Huntington School District taxpayers, Town Supervisor Frank P. Petrone turned over a set of keys to a surplus town vehicle that district officials say will be used by security guards to patrol school grounds.
In the shadow of Huntington High School, Mr. Petrone presented the keys and the car, a Ford Taurus to district Superintendent John J. Finello and School Board President Bill Dwyer.
The transfer allowed the district to eliminate a tentative allocation for a new car in the 2009/10 school budget. “This is a cost saving element made possible by the school district's close relationship with Town Hall,” Mr. Dwyer said. “It saves us money and illustrates the beneficial synergy of strong inter-municipal relationships.”
School officials said that security in and around the eight buildings in the district is a top priority. “Our commitment to providing a safe environment for students, staff and guests is unwavering,” Mr. Finello said. “We will use the surplus town patrol car to provide even better services in the years ahead.”
