Ambitious Summer Renovation Projects in Huntington
In what could be the one of the most ambitious sets of summer renovation and repair projects ever in the Huntington School District, work is continuing on schedule in all eight buildings and officials are very confident that everything will be in place for a smooth opening in September.
Some of the projects have already been completed, while others will continue for several more weeks. The work is being done by a combination of district employees and outside contractors, depending upon the specific project.
“Keeping our buildings in tip-top shape is important,” Superintendent John J. Finello said. “We need to protect the investments already made by taxpayers as well as continuing to provide students with first-class learning facilities.”
The district-wide renovations include:
Huntington High School
- Boiler room asbestos abatement and boiler re-insulation.
- Replacement of hallway lockers.
- Installation of new wall partitions in the gymnasium.
- Parking lot/roadway and sidewalk renovations.
- Choral room flooring replacement.
- Orchestra room carpeting replacement.
- Construction of a mock courtroom in room 239.
- Renovations to the peer mediation room.
J. Taylor Finley Middle School
- Boiler room asbestos abatement and boiler re-insulation.
- Installation of a new fire alarm system.
- Installation of a new fuel storage tank.
- Upgrading of stage wiring.
- Replacement of hallway ceiling tiles.
Jack Abrams Intermediate School
- Installation of new fire alarm system.
- Renovations to room 109.
- Renovations to main office.
- Renovations to student bathrooms.
Woodhull Intermediate School
- Replacement of classroom ceilings.
- Construction of pupil personnel services office.
- Replacement of exterior doors.
- Replacement of security system.
Flower Hill Primary School
- Installation of a new public address system.
- Replacement of sidewalks and curbs.
- Sanding and refinishing of the gymnasium floor.
- Installation of new security lighting.
Jefferson Primary School
- Installation of a new public address system.
- Installation of a new fire alarm system.
- Replacement of the gymnasium HVAC system.
Southdown Primary School
- Installation of a new public address system.
- Sanding and refinishing of the gymnasium floor.
- Installation of a new fire alarm system.
Washington Primary School
- Construction of a reading room in the library.
- Replacement of main hallway doors.
- Installation of an athletic field irrigation system.
- Upgrading of stage wiring.
